Before any postgraduate students in the University can be cleared for graduation, the following key graduation requirements are expected to be achieved as follows:
MASTERS DEGREE PROGRAMME
The following shall apply to students in Masters programme:
1. Class Attendance: In order to be eligible to write examination at any point, a student shall have a minimum of 75% class attendance in each course.
2. Coursework Examination: All students are expected to register and pass all courses as prescribed by each Department. No students shall be allowed to proceed to the Dissertation and Thesis stage until all prescribed courses are written and passed.
3. Good Standing: To be in good standing, a student MUST have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.00 at the completion of the coursework.
4. Withdrawal of Studentship: A student whose CGPA is below 3.00 (i.e. 2.99 downward) at the end of completion of the coursework examination, shall have his/her studentship withdrawn from the programme.
5. Publication: In addition to other requirements for the award of Masters Degree, a candidate MUST publish a minimum of 2 papers in Thompson Reuter and Scopus indexed outlet (1 paper each in Conference proceedings and journal).
A publication in any relevant University Journal may be accepted for a student on the Masters Degree programme.
6. Masters Project/Dissertation/Oral Examination : Upon the successful completion of the coursework, students shall proceed to their project/dissertation stage. Any student with a CGPA less than 3.00 shall not be allowed to proceed to his/her project/dissertation stage.
Upon the completion of the project/dissertation, all students shall proceed to defend their project/dissertation through oral examination before a competent External Examiner.
7. Residency: Students on Masters Degree programme shall not exceed two (2) academic sessions (4 semesters) on the programme.
M.Phil/Ph.D PROGRAMME
The following shall apply to students in M.Phil/Ph.D programme:
1. Class Attendance: In order to be eligible to write examination at any point, a student shall have a minimum of 75% class attendance in each course.
2. Coursework Examination: All students are expected to register and pass all courses as prescribed by each Department.
No student shall be allowed to proceed to the Thesis stage until all prescribed courses are written and passed.
3. Good Standing: To be in good standing, a student MUST have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.00 at the completion of the coursework.
4. M.Phil Degree: The University shall award M.Phil degree to M.Phil/Ph.D candidate who fails to meet up with a minimum CGPA of 4.00 upon the completion of coursework examination but with a CGPA of 3.00 - 3.99.
Such candidate shall proceed to writing a long essay/project and upon successful defence of his/her project would be awarded an M.Phil Degree in the respective discipline.
5. Conversion from M.Phil/Ph.D to Ph.D : A student admitted into the M.Phil/Ph.D programme and who has successfully passed the coursework examination with a CGPA of 4.00 shall be allowed to proceed to the Ph.D upon the successful defense of the College Proposal.
6. Withdrawal of Studentship : A student whose CGPA is below 3.00 (i.e. 2.99 downward) upon completion of his/her coursework examination, shall have his/her studentship withdrawn from the programme.
Ph.D DEGREE PROGRAMME
The following shall apply to students in M.Phil/Ph.D programme:
1. Class Attendance: In order to be eligible to write examination at any point, a student shall have a minimum of 75% class attendance in each course.
2. Coursework Examination: All students are expected to register and pass all courses as prescribed by each Department. No student shall be allowed to proceed to the Thesis stage until all prescribed courses are written and passed.
3. Good Standing: To be in good standing a student MUST have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.00 at the completion of the coursework.
4. Withdrawal of Studentship: A student whose CGPA is below 4.00 (i.e. 3.99 downward) at the end of completion of the coursework examination, shall have his/her studentship withdrawn from the programme.
5. Publication: In addition to other requirements for the award of Ph.D degree, a candidate MUST publish a minimum of 3 papers in Thompson Reuter and Scopus indexed outlets (i.e. 2 papers in journal and 1 Conference).
6. Residency: Students on Ph.D programme shall not exceed four (4) academic sessions (8 semesters) on the programme.
